Pilgrimage to Rome or tourist trip? Sept 26 to Nov 1,2014
Thursday, September 25th, 2014When Catholic Answers sent my Wife and I an invitation to go on a Cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean , we looked at the itinerary. It starts and ends in Rome. It visits Athens, Constantinople (Istanbul), Ephesus and the Greek islands. When at sea for the day, there will be lectures by well known Catholics from Catholic Answers. My Wife, Milly, and I pondered over this opportunity for a few days before deciding to go for it.
We added 7 days in Rome before the cruise. We also added Madrid to visit Milly’s sister, who has lived her whole adult life in Geneva and Madrid. A friend suggested that when in Spain, one had to visit the Sagrada Família in Barcelona – the “most beautiful Catholic Church is the world!”. Our daughter, Kim, chimed in with Barcelona was her favorite city in Europe. We added a 5 day visit to Barcelona.
We will be at the Papal Audience on Wednesday Oct 1st in St Peters square. We also hope to be at the Mass opening the Synod of Bishops on Sunday Oct 5th.
Our Parish Monsignor suggested we go to Assisi. We will be there for the day on Saturday Oct 4th.
We will visit the cradles of western civilization as well as major sites associated with our Catholic Faith.
Please keep us in your prayers during our time of Pilgrimage and vacation.
Peace, Fred
