Northern California – Redwoods, Ocean, Clear Lake, Sacramento 9/19/2009

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

We travelled from Crater Lake to the National Redwoods National Park on Northern California Coast.

We couldn’t get into the state park campgrounds that we planned – they were full.

We ended up at a county campground right on the beach – Clam Beach Campground. We were about 50 yards from the beach. We strolled the beach and prepared supper. We intended to watch a sunset over the pacfic but the heavy fog rolled in.

In the morning, we headed for Humbolt Redwoods State Park. We drove the scenic drive through the redwood Forest and took a loop hike around a redwood forest trail. We then headed for Mendocino, a quaint village on the coast. We stayed at a RV park at Casper Beach. We had dinner in Fort Bragg and visited Mendocino and the bluffs overlooking the ocean.

We got the news that Alex and Elena had given us a new grandchild – Evelyn Summer Wood-Dunfey. She was born early in  AM on 9/15. Everyone is doing great! We made plans to visit Alex, Elena, Evelyn and Kim in San Francisco area on Saturday night. We will be staying in Half Moon Bay for 3 nights.

We left Casper Beach to go to Sacramento via Clear Lake. Clear Lake State Park was about half way to Sacramento. Clear Lake is nestled in beatiful rolling hills of the Wine Country. The park was a nice place full of all kinds of animals and birds but the lake was full of algae.

We arrived in Sacramento. We set up our camper at the Yolo Fairgrounds, had lunch and headed for Milly’s cousin’s home.

We had a lovely visit with Milly’s cousin Stephanie Tucker at her home in downtown “old” Sacramento. We took a charming walk for several blocks from her home to a Thai Restaurant for dinner.

San Francisco – Half Moon Bay  – New Grandchild Evelyn

On Saturday, we arrived at Half Moon Bay near San Francisco and went for our first visit with our new Granchild, Evelyn.  She now lives in Foster City. Our Son, Alex is the proud papa and his Wife Elena Wood the mama. Her parents are also visiting for several weeks. Our Daughter Kim joined us from Menlo Park.
