Expectations 5/11 – 10/15/2009
It is hard to believe that we are actually leaving in a week!! Our research, reading, planning and kibitzing with friends have resulted in an overall game plan for the trip. Now is the time to relax. The heavy lifting is over. Our Rig is ready and our bags are almost packed. We promise to take this trip one day at a time, enjoy each moment and remember that our plan was made to be changed as often as we want.
Overall trip plan currently has us visiting these locales:
- Ottawa Tullip Festival and Theodre Roosevelt National Park
- Glacier National Park
- Banff/Jasper/Prince Rupert
- Alaska Inside Passage – Ketchikan, Wrangel, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Haines, Skagway, Hyder
- Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Valdez, AK
- Kenai Peninsula – Kenai Fjords
- Anchorage Denali National Park and Fairbanks-Interior, AK
- Dawson City ,WhiteHorse , Yukon and Telegraph Creek, BC
- Vancouver, Victoria BC and San Francisco, CA
At first glance I thought you were crazy to get to Gl;acier, then head into Kenai, then Anchorage and up…I thought…why not gp Ottowa to YUkon and make one top-to-bottom trip?
Then, I rememberd hat hell it was for me to drive across all of Canada…flat, featureless, endless (!) So, wirth that memory in mind, I think the right thing to do is what you are doing…start in the south of Alaska and head over Kenai way then up, then back down.
I guess Iceberg Alley didn’t make the cut….it’s a long haul. I may not go myself.
